- While pressing and releasing the power folding mirror button, monitor:
- Did the test light illuminate when the button is pressed and not illuminate when the button is released?
- CHECK THE FOLDING MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- CHECK THE FOLDING MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch.
- Measure:
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 6 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit. SYNCHRONIZE the power folding mirrors. REFER to MIRROR SYNCHRONIZATION - EXTERIOR, POWER FOLDING .
- CHECK THE FOLDING MOTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:
Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch (integral to the master window control switch). REFER to Window Control Switch. SYNCHRONIZE the power folding mirrors. REFER to MIRROR SYNCHRONIZATION - EXTERIOR, POWER FOLDING .
- No: REPAIR the circuit. SYNCHRONIZE the power folding mirrors. REFER to MIRROR SYNCHRONIZATION - EXTERIOR, POWER FOLDING .
- Measure:
- CHECK THE FOLDING MIRROR OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) and Right Hand (RH) Exterior Mirror.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
- Are any voltages present?
- Yes: REPAIR the affected circuit(s). SYNCHRONIZE the power folding mirrors. REFER to MIRROR SYNCHRONIZATION - EXTERIOR, POWER FOLDING .
- No: GO to step 8 .
- CHECK THE FOLDING MIRROR OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
