Description And Operation: Seating: Notes
Overview
Pressing and releasing the LH or RH rear seat control switch (located at the back of the rear door opening) causes the corresponding rear seat backrest to fold and tumble forward for access to the third row seating.
Each time the heated seat switch (part of the auxiliary climate control assembly) is pressed, it cycles through the various modes (high, low, and off).
System Operation
Seating - Power Release
Each second row power fold seat motor receives battery voltage at all times. The power fold seat motors contain internal switching that operate the motor until it moves to the reset position and turns off. The battery saver relay voltage output circuit from the BCM provides the control signal voltage to each seat control switch. For additional information about the battery saver feature, REFER to Interior Lighting , Battery Saver. The seat control switches are momentary contact switches. When pressed and held for at least one second, switched voltage is applied to the power fold seat motor control circuits to initiate a pull and release cycle.
When the seat control switch is activated, the second row power fold seat motor retracts a cable (connected to the same seat latch mechanism as the manual release pull strap) to release the backrest recliner latches and allows the backrest assist spring to fold the backrest forward onto the seat cushion. The power fold seat motor continues to retract to release the seat-to-floor latches and allows the assist spring and strut dampener to lift and tumble the seat forward to the E-Z entry position for third row seat access. Immediately after the seat is fully released, the power fold seat motor returns the release cable and latches to a relaxed state, ready for manual latching. To return to a seating position, the seat must be manually latched to the floor and the backrest must be manually latched upright.
Heated Seats
The heated seats are controlled by the heated seat module located under the RH seat cushion. When the heated seat switch is pressed, a momentary ground signal is sent to the heated seat module. When the heated seat feature is active, the heated seat module supplies voltage to the heater circuit. The seat cushion and backrest heater mats are wired in series. The heated seat module monitors input from a temperature sensor, located in each backrest heater mat and maintains seat temperature by cycling output voltage to the heater grids as necessary to maintain the set point temperature. The heated seat module supplies voltage to the auxiliary climate control assembly to illuminate the appropriate indicator circuit(s) in the heated seat switch when the system is active. In high mode, both indicators on the heated seat switch illuminate. In low mode, only the low indicator illuminates. The heated seat module does not time out and remains on until switched off or ignition is OFF.
The heated seat module does not report DTCs and does not communicate on any network. If a fault is detected, the affected seat system is disabled. The faults detected are:
- a heater feed circuit short to battery, ground or open.
- sensor circuit short to battery or open.
- heated seat switch stuck closed to ground.
