Front Strut and Spring Assembly: Removal

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Both Sides

1.

Remove the wheel knuckle. Refer to: Wheel Knuckle .

2.

NOTE: The stabilizer bar links are designed with low friction ball joints that have a low breakaway torque.

NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the ball stud from turning while removing or installing the stabilizer bar link nut.

Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link upper nut and position the stabilizer bar link aside.

Torque: 76 lb.ft (103 Nm)

Remove the nut and position the brake wiring support bracket aside.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

Remove the instrument panel console. Refer to: Instrument Panel Console .

Driver Side

5.

Release the 2 clips and remove the LH side access panel.

Release the 3 clips and remove the LH cup holder. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

  Remove the 5 screws.
  Torque: 18 lb.in (2 Nm)
- 2.
  
  Release the 6 clips and remove the LH instrument panel finish panel.
- 3.
  
  Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

Remove the 6 screws and the lower LH instrument panel close out panel.

Position aside the LH strut tower sound insulator.

With the help of an assistant, remove the driver side front upper strut and spring assembly nuts and remove the strut and spring assembly.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

Passenger Side

Press the stop tabs downward and fully lower the glove compartment.

Remove the 2 hinge pins and remove the glove compartment.

Position aside the RH strut tower sound insulator.

With the help of an assistant, remove the passenger side front upper strut and spring assembly nuts and remove the strut and spring assembly.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
