Inspection

NOTE: Always refer to the appropriate Service Information procedures prior to carrying out vehicle repairs affecting the pedestrian protection system.
NOTE: The deployable hood system must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. NOTE: Refer to the correct removal and installation procedure for all pedestrian protection system components being installed.

When the hood actuators deploy and/or the RCM has DTC 0x942900 (Pedestrian Impact Event Storage Full and Locked), use the diagnostic scan tool and unlock the RCM by clearing the DTC. The RCM can be used again. Diagnostic trouble codes must be cleared from all required modules after repairs are carried out. After a deployable hood system deployment, the repair of the vehicle deployable hood system is to always include removal and installation of the following new parts:

    • All pedestrian protection hood actuators

    • Hood

    • Hood hinges

    • All pedestrian impact sensors

  2. When any damage to an impact sensor mounting point or mounting hardware that is part of the bumper cover has occurred, always install a new front bumper cover.
  3. Remove the front bumper cover reinforcement. Inspect the bumper cover reinforcement for any cracks, material fatigue or other damage and install a new one if necessary.
  4. When any damage to the hood actuator or hood hinge mounting areas has occurred, repair or install new components as needed.
  5. Inspect the deployable hood system wiring, wiring harnesses and connectors for damage and repair or install new components as needed.
