Pinpoint Test BQ: Abs (Anti-Lock Brake System) Module Communication Concern With The IPMA (Image Processing Module A)

Refer to: VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control - System Operation and Component Description  .

The IPMA is part of the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

With the ignition ON, the IPMA sends messages to the ABS module the over the HS-CAN2. If the ABS module does not receive these messages within a certain time frame, the module sets Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). This can be due to an IPMA failure, a circuit failure on the network or an excessive load on the network.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
ABS U023A:87 Lost Communication With Image Processing Module A: Missing Message sets in the ABS module when the adaptive cruise control data message from the IPMA is missing for more than the allowed time.
ABS U053B:82 Invalid Data Received From Image Processing Module A: Alive/Sequence Counter Incorrect/Not Updated sets in the ABS module when the counter signal value in the adaptive cruise control data message from the IPMA does not increase.
ABS U053B:83 Invalid Data Received From Image Processing Module A: Value Of Signal Protection Calculation Incorrect sets in the ABS module when an invalid checksum value is received in the adaptive cruise control data message from the IPMA.
ABS U053B:86 Invalid Data Received From Image Processing Module A: Signal Invalid sets in the ABS module when the brake precharge request is received from the IPMA with an invalid or incorrect signal value.
