Remote Keyless Entry System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see TEST B: SCAN TOOL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Attempt to establish communications with BCM. If communications are established as specified, go to next step. If communications are not established, see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - BLAZER, BRAVADA, ENVOY, JIMMY, SONOMA & S10 PICKUP article.
  4. If scan tool displays DTCs which begin with "U", see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS. If any other DTCs are recorded, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
