Scan Tool Data Definitions

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2002 GMC Envoy XL, 2002 GMC Envoy, and 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Cruise Control Scan Tool Data Definitions contains a brief description of all engine related parameters available on the scan tool. The list is in alphabetical order. A given parameter may appear in any one of the data lists. In some cases, the parameter may appear more than once or in more than one data list in order to group certain related parameters together.

APP Indicated Angle

The scan tool displays 0-100 percent. The scan tool displays the Accelerator Pedal Position in percentage. When the APP is at rest, the display shows 0 percent. When the APP is fully pressed, the display shows 100 percent.

Cruise Control Active

The scan tool displays Yes/No. The scan tool displays the current status of cruise control operation.

Cruise Disengage History

The scan tool indicates the last 8 cruise control disengages in order from 1 to 8. There are 20 possible causes for the cruise control to disengage.

Cruise On/Off Switch

The scan tool displays On or Off. When you activate the cruise control switch, the scan tool displays ON. The switch, when in the ON position, sends a signal voltage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This allows all other functions of the Cruise Control. When you turn off the cruise control switch, the scan tool displays OFF.

Cruise Release Clutch/TCC Pedal Switches

The scan tool displays Applied or Released (manual transmission). This parameter indicates the state of the TCC/CC brake switch signal circuit. Open indicates 0 voltage (brake, clutch switch open, brake, clutch pedal applied). Closed indicates a battery positive voltage signal (brake, clutch switch closed, brake, clutch pedal released). When you apply the vehicle brakes or press the clutch pedal, the scan tool displays Applied. The torque converter clutch, (automatic transmission), and cruise control disengages. When you release the vehicle brakes or clutch pedal, the scan tool displays Released. This allows the cruise control to be resumed and the torque converter clutch to engage.

Cruise Resume/Accel Switch

The scan tool displays On or Off. When the cruise control switch is in the on position and the Resume/Accel switch is activated, the scan tool displays ON. When the Resume/Accel switch is released the scan tool displays OFF.

Cruise Set/Coast

The scan tool displays On or Off. When the Cruise control switch is in the on position and the Set/Coast switch is activated, the scan tool displays ON. When the Set/Coast switch is released the scan tool displays OFF.

Engine Load

The scan tool displays 0 to 100%. The PCM determines the engine load based upon the engine speed and the calculated air flow values. Engine load increases with any increase in RPM and/or air flow.

Engine Speed

The scan tool displays 0 to 16,000 RPM. The PCM counts the number of crank revolutions from the CKP sensor.

Engine Run Time

The scan tool displays 0 to 18:12:15. The engine run time is a measurement of how long the engine has been running during the current ignition cycle. When the engine stops, the timer resets to zero.

Ignition 1 Signal

The scan tool displays 0 to 25.5. The scan tool indicates the voltage on the Ignition 1 signal circuit to the PCM. The normal Ignition 1 voltage is approximately 13.8V, but may vary between 11V and 18V.

Reduced Engine Power

The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. The scan tool displays Active when the PCM receives a signal that a throttle actuator control system fault is occurring. The PCM limits the engine power.

TCC Enable Solenoid Command

The scan tool displays On or Off. When the PCM applies voltage to the TCC enabled solenoid the scan tool displays On.

TP Desired Angle

The scan tool displays 0-100 percent. The PCM indicates the desired throttle angle commanded by the vehicle operator.

TP Indicated Angle

The scan tool displays 0-100 percent. The TP Indicated Angle displays in percentage the amount of throttle opening.

Traction Control Signal

The scan tool displays Active or Inactive, If equipped. The scan tool displays active if the PCM receives a signal from the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBTCM) requesting torque reduction during a traction control maneuver.

TR Sw.

Scan tool displays the transmission gear position.

Vehicle Speed

The scan tool displays km/h and mph. The vehicle speed sensor signal is converted into km/h and mph for display.
