Installation Procedure
- Install Power Steering Assist Motor (2)
- Install NEW O-ring seal (4).
- Install Steering Gear Drive Coupling (3)
- Align the power steering assist motor (2) with the steering gear housing and install three NEW power steering assist motor bolts (1) by hand.
- Tighten Power Steering Assist Motor Bolts (1) (Qty: 3) to 8 N.m (71 lb in)
- Connect the electrical connector (1) to the power steering assist motor.
- Verify connector (1) is fully seated by lightly pulling on the connector.
- Install the connector position assurance lock (1) into the electrical connector (2) until fully seated.
- Install Steering Gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (2.4L, FWD) Steering Gear Replacement (3.6L, AWD) Steering Gear Replacement (2.4L, AWD) Steering Gear Replacement (3.6L, FWD)
- Transfer the key cycle count from the OLD steering gear control module to the NEW steering gear control module. Refer to Control Module References
NOTE:
The steering gear drive coupling and assist motor armature should be aligned with the gear inside of the steering gear housing to aid in installation, otherwise interference MAY occur.
NOTE:
If the connector position assurance lock (1) was damaged during removal, discard it and skip step 5.
