ECU OTA SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT GUIDE

DESCRIPTION
This bulletin provides the procedure to update and recover ECU modules that fail Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates by using the GDS and the Ethernet Communication Interface (ECI) module.
ECI module is required and must be connected to a GDS tablet via USB cable to communicate to the vehicle's Ethernet network in order to perform OTA software updates.
Applicable Vehicles:
- 2023MY GV60 (JW1 EV) or newer.
- 2023MY G90 (RS4) or newer.
- 2025MY GV80 (JX1) or newer.
UPDATE PROCEDURE
- Configure the tablet's Ethernet connection settings by referring to TSB 23-GI-005G, "Configure Ethernet Connection on GDS Table to Enable Over-The-Air (OTA) Software Update".
- Connect VCI to ECI module and connect module to vehicle and GDS tablet, as shown on page 1.
- Select ECU Upgrade function within GDS.
- Select OTA Management Version Update.
Information
"OTA Management Version Update" function will only be enabled when GDS is connected to vehicles capable of OTA Software Updates.
Refer to "Applicable Vehicles" section on page 1.
- GDS will connect to the OTA server to retrieve the software update information related to the model.
Next, Select Area selection screen will be shown. Select area shown for USA vehicles, Mass Production 07 (USA).
- After selecting the area, GDS will automatically start scanning the available modules and available software update information.
To perform a manual check of an individual ECU, please skip to the next section, Individual ECU Check and Update.
- OTA Management will display the available modules, part number, current vehicle software version, and the target software version available for download.
Information
'Auto Update' is shown for modules that are confirmed to be equipped on the vehicle and have an available newer target software update.
'Manual Update' is shown when the module cannot be confirmed to be equipped on the vehicle.
- Select the module to update.
Confirmation popup will be shown listing the part name, part number, and current software version.
Select Confirm to proceed with the update.
- Module update will start and complete automatically.
ECU upgrade completion will be displayed showing the original and updated software versions.
Select OK .
- CCU "OTA initialization" will be automatically performed. This is required
to enable future ECU OTA updates.
Information
CCU "OTA initialization" is required to be performed after updating or replacing a module capable of OTA software updates.
- Perform an All Systems Fault Code
search and clear any DTCs that may have resulted from the update process.
ECU update is now complete.
INDIVIDUAL ECU CHECK AND UPDATE
- After performing steps 1 - 5 of the Update Procedure:
Select Check the Version of the Individual ECU to skip scanning all of the vehicle's modules and select only the target module.
- List of ECU modules will be shown with the status Need to Check
.
- Select the target ECU to check if a software update is available.
If the target software is available, the status will change to Auto Update.
Information
The ECU modules listed are not confirmed to be equipped on the vehicle.
Manual check is needed to confirm module and software update are available.
