Alternator & Regulator: Description
Storm (VIN 6) is equipped with a Nippondenso 75 amp alternator with internal regulator, this alternator is non-serviceable. Storm GSi (VIN 8) with manual transmission is equipped with a Nippondenso 75 amp alternator with internal regulator. Storm GSi (VIN 8) with automatic transmission is equipped with a Nippondenso 80 amp alternator with internal regulator. Both alternators on Storm GSi models are serviceable and can be repaired or overhauled.
The Integrated Circuit (IC) regulator is a solid state unit mounted inside alternator to rear end frame. Voltage regulator voltage cannot be adjusted.
Two brushes carry current through 2 slip rings to field coil mounted on rotor. Stator windings are assembled inside a laminated core forming part of alternator drive and frame assemblies. A rectifier bridge containing 8 diodes is connected to stator windings.
