Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Relay (Tracker A/T)

  1. TCC relay is located at right corner of engine compartment, on fusible link box, and contains a Green connector. With ignition on, disconnect TCC relay electrical connector.
  2. Using test light connected to ground, check for voltage at White/Red and Blue/Black wires of electrical connector. If voltage exists at both wires, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, check for open or short to ground on defective circuit. White/Red wire goes from TCC relay to stoplight switch. Blue/Black wire goes from TCC relay to EFI main relay, located near ECM. See Figure .
  3. Connect test light to battery supply. Using test light, touch White/Red and White wires of TCC relay electrical connector. If light does not glow, go to step 6).
  4. If light glows on White wire, check for short to ground in White wire from TCC relay to oil pressure switch at transmission. If no short to ground exists, replace oil pressure switch located inside transmission.
  5. If light glows on White/Red wire, check for short to ground in White/Red wire from TCC relay to ECM. ECM is located under left side of instrument panel near kick panel. If no short to ground exists, replace ECM.
  6. Install electrical connector on TCC relay. Install jumper wire from ground to White/Red wire through back of connector. Using test light, check for voltage at White wire of connector. If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, replace TCC relay.
  7. Disconnect jumper wire installed in step 6). Using test light, check for voltage at White wire of TCC relay. If voltage exists, replace TCC relay. If voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect electrical connector from TCC relay. Connect test light to battery supply. Probe White/Red wire of electrical connector using test light.
  9. Operate vehicle to normal operating temperature on a flat surface at a speed exceeding 42 MPH. If test light glows, system is operating correctly. If test light does not glow, check for open circuit in White/Red wire between TCC relay and ECM. If wiring is okay, replace ECM.
