Visual/Physical Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Pontiac Firefly and 1996 Geo Metro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Several symptom checks call for a thorough visual/physical inspection. Of all symptom checks listed, a thorough visual/physical inspection is most important. It can lead to correcting a problem without further checks and can save valuable time. A thorough visual/physical inspection should include:
- Ensure PCM grounds are clean, tight, and properly located.
- Check vacuum hoses for splits, kinks, leaks, restrictions, and proper connections, as shown on Vehicle Emission Control Information Label.
- Check for air leaks at throttle body mounting area and intake manifold sealing surfaces.
- Check ignition wires for cracking, hardness, proper routing and carbon tracking.
- Check wiring for proper connections, pinches and cuts.
