Shift Control Cable

  1. Start engine and move shift lever into the "R" position. Check if transaxle engages in Reverse. With engine off, remove the center console.
  2. Move shift lever into the "N" or "R" position. Remove lock pin from adjuster. Check that hole in adjuster is perfectly aligned with hole in shift cable. See Fig 1 .
  3. Holes in the end of adjuster are positioned to allow cable adjustments in 1/4 turn increments. If not perfectly aligned, adjustment can be made on shift cable.
  4. Loosen lock nut and adjust as necessary. Tighten lock nut. Install lock pin into adjuster. See Fig 1 .
  5. Lock pin should not bind as it is installed. Start engine and check shift lever in all gears. Vehicle should only start in the "P" and "N" positions. Adjust neutral safety switch if necessary. Reverse removal procedure to install center console.
