Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Remove rubber cap from timing inspection window located on rear of cylinder block.
2. Start and run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.

Timing Connector:





3. Remove yellow cap from ignition timing connector. Install a suitable jumper wire between the BROWN and GRN/WHT terminals.

Timing Light Connection:





4. Connect a timing light to the # 1 ignition wire. Point the light toward the pointer on the flywheel (M/T), or on the drive plate (A/T).

Timing Marks:





IGNITION TIMING
15 +/- 2° BTDC (Red mark)
at 750 +/- 50 RPM in neutral

Distributor Adjustment:





5. Adjust ignition timing by loosening the distributor hold down bolts. Turn the distributor clockwise to retard and counter clockwise to advance the ignition timing.

6. Tighten the distributor hold down bolts and recheck the ignition timing.

7. Remove the jumper wire from the ignition timing connector, install the cap to the connector, and install the rubber cap on the engine block timing window.
