SYMPTOM

When you use the AUTO function to lower the window, the window goes down only 3 or 4 inches. The window goes down all the way if you push the power window switch lightly and hold it.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Contamination in the window motor causes a loss of electrical ground.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the window regulator assembly.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the driver's door panel. Refer to page 20-4 of the 2000-03 Insight Service Manual.
  2. Remove the plastic inner liner by carefully cutting the adhesive with a razor blade.
  3. Lower the window until you can access the mounting bolts. Use masking tape to tape the window to the outer molding.
  4. Disconnect the window motor harness from the door harness. Unclip the window motor harness from the door frame.
  5. Remove the window mounting bolts. See Fig 1 .

  6. Loosen the three window motor mounting bolts. Push the bolt heads inside the door.
  7. Loosen the upper left window regulator mounting bolt, and remove the other three bolts.
  8. Move the bottom of the regulator assembly toward the back of the door. Remove the regulator assembly through the access hole.
  9. Install the new window regulator assembly in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the four window regulator mounting bolts and the three window motor mounting bolts to 8 N.m (6 lb-ft).
  10. Reconnect the window motor harness to the floor harness. Clip the harness to the door frame.
  11. Torque the window mounting bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).
  12. Reinstall the plastic inner liner.
  13. Test the window operation.
  14. Reinstall the interior door panel.
