EDITOR'S NOTE:  This article replaces "New HDS Software Release: Version 2.020.015" in the November '09 issue of ServiceNews.

Since the release of HDS software version 2.020.015 in November '09, the HDS tablet will get locked out if, after 7 days  , no data files were uploaded to American Honda. This is similar to the lockout feature that we've had in place for HDS PCs.

We've had to do this because there are a lot of dealers who still don't leave their HDS tablet or HDS PC turned on and connected to the network at the end of the day like we've instructed. If you need a refresher, be sure to check out "Done for the Day? Leave Your HDS On and Connected to the Network" in the October '08 issue of ServiceNews.

If the HDS gets locks out, you see this message:

To clear the lockout, you need to fix your connectivity problem and then run and pass  the Honda Network Tester (HNT) from the desktop. If you still can't unlock the HDS, then call the Special Tools Hotline at 800-346-6327.  The friendly folks there can bypass the lockout for a week to give you time to get things fixed.

Just a reminder: If videos are your thing, you'll also find a complete explanation of this lockout feature in Tech2Tech.  Look up "What You Need to Know About HDS Lockout."
