DTC P0300: Random Misfire Detected: Notes
NOTE:
If DTCs P0107, P0108, P0171, P0172, P0505, P1128, P1129, P1336, P1337, P1361, P1362, P1381, P1382, and/or P1508 are indicated, trouble shoot misfire DTCs last.
If misfiring is frequent enough to trigger detection of increased emissions during 2 consecutive driving cycles, Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) will illuminate, and DTC P0300 and some combination of P0301-P0304 will be stored in memory. If misfiring is frequent enough to damage catalyst, MIL will blink whenever misfiring occurs, and DTC P0300 and some combination of P0301-P0304 will be stored in memory. When misfiring stops, MIL will still remain on.
- If DTCs P0300 and some of DTCs P0301, P0302, P0303, and/or P0304 is set, check for:
- Insufficient fuel pressure or inadequate fuel flow.
- Clogging, blocked or leaking fuel line.
- Clogging fuel filter.
- Stuck open fuel pressure regulator.
- Distributor malfunction.
- An open or shorting ignition coil wire.
- Ignition Control Module (ICM) malfunction.
- Carbon deposits on valves.
- Low engine compression.
- Fuel octane level less than specification or very low fuel level.
Repair as necessary. If no problems are found, go to next step.
- Test drive vehicle to verify symptom. Perform inspection and repair procedures according to symptom.
