Removal & Installation (Civic)

WARNING: Civic is equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  1. Disconnect negative battery terminal. PCM is located behind glove box. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Gently pull down dashboard lower cover edge nearest glove box to release clips at front edge of instrument panel. Pull dashboard lower cover away to release pins from holders at rear of instrument panel.
  2. Remove passenger kick panel. While holding glove box, remove glove box stop from each side. Remove glove box mounting bolts. Remove glove box. Remove bolt from plastic cross brace. Using diagonal cutters, cut glove box opening plastic cross brace as shown in illustration. See Fig 1. Remove PGM-FI main relays. Remove bolts from glove box frame. Remove glove box frame. See Fig 2. Remove Gray wire harness connector from PCM mounting bracket. Remove PCM bracket mounting bolt and bracket. Remove PCM mounting nuts. Remove PCM. See Fig 3.
