Specifications & Procedures

  1. If using belt tension gauge method, attach belt tension gauge to belt with gauge pointing toward engine. See Figure. Measure belt tension. See BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  2. If using deflection method, apply a force of 98 N (10 kg, 22 lbs.) between the power steering pump pulley and crankshaft pulley. See Figure. Measure the deflection. See BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. If a new belt is installed, run the engine for 5 minutes, then readjust the belt to the used belt specifications.
  4. To adjust belt, loosen power steering pump mounting nut (A) and bolt (B) as shown in Fig 1. Turn adjusting nut (C) to adjust tension. When correct tension is achieved, tighten mounting nut and bolt to specifications as shown in illustration.
  5. Start the engine and turn steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times, then stop the engine and recheck the tension of the belt.
