PDI PROCEDURES
Before doing the PDI, review these items:
- Perfect Delivery documents, especially the information on battery maintenance and tire pressures.
- PDI checklist in the Service History booklet.
Make sure you record the PDI on the appropriate pages of the vehicle's Service History booklet. The PDI procedure is not finished until this bulletin and the checklist in the Service History booklet are completed.
Install the No. 15 Fuse
To prevent battery drain during shipping, the No. 15 (40 A) fuse (Backup, ACC) is removed from the primary under-hood fuse/relay box and stored in the glove box. Make sure you install this fuse with the ignition switch in LOCK (0).
PRIMARY UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX
Check the Battery
To ensure long battery life and that the customer receives a fully charged battery, the battery must be checked in these instances:
- When the vehicle first arrives at the dealership
- During the PDI (if done at a later time)
- During regular intervals
- Just before delivering the vehicle to the customer
Test the battery with the ED-18 battery tester using the instructions in Service Bulletin 88-023, BATTERY TESTING AND REPLACEMENT . Do not use the battery's test indicator window to check its state of charge. If the ED-18 tester does not show GOOD BATTERY , charge the battery (refer to Service Bulletin 89-003, BATTERY MAINTENANCE AT DEALERS , then recheck it.
Write down the GOOD BATTERY 10-digit code in the Service History booklet: During the PDI, write down the code in the "Under Hood (Engine Cold)" section. Then, when the vehicle is delivered to the customer, write down the code in the "Final Inspection (At Delivery)" section.
Do the Idle Learn Procedure
To ensure a steady engine idle, do the idle learn procedure after installing the No. 15 fuse.
- Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
- Start the engine, and let it reach its normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).
- Let the engine idle (with the throttle fully closed and all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.
Do the CKP Pattern Learn Procedure
To ensure proper engine operation, do the CKP pattern learn procedure after doing the idle learn procedure. Do this procedure on a level road during your PDI road test. The procedure includes a low-rpm and a high-rpm pattern learn. Make sure you do the low-rpm pattern learn first.
- Low-rpm Pattern Learn: Shift to D3, and decelerate with the throttle fully closed from 2,500 rpm to 1,000 rpm.
- High-rpm Pattern Learn: Shift to 1, and decelerate with the throttle fully closed from 5,000 rpm to 3,000 rpm.
Set the Radio and the Clock (Models Without Navigation)
After installing the No. 15 fuse, do this:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and turn on the radio.
- If not already done, enter the radio anti-theft code.
- Enter local AM or FM stations on all of the radio presets. To enter a station, press and hold the left or right side of the preset button until you hear a beep.
- Press and hold the CLOCK button on the audio panel until you hear a beep and the clock flashes.
- Press and hold the H (preset 1) side of the 1-2 preset button to set the hour.
- Press and hold the M (preset 2) side of the 1-2 preset button to set the minute.
- When you are finished setting the time, press the CLOCK button again.
Check/Refresh the XM Radio Dealer Demo Service (RTL)
XM Radio is standard on RTL models. While RT and RTS models are XM Radio ready, they require the XM accessory kit to be operational.
This audio system comes from the factory activated with the XM Radio dealer demo service. Once you install the No. 15 fuse, the XM radio receives the full range of available XM channels. Make sure this service is activated by tuning to several XM channels. You can see the full list of XM channels at www.siriusxm.com. If the XM radio receives only a small number of channels like 000, 001 , and 247 , the dealer demo is not activated.
To check for the dealer demo service, do this:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Turn on the radio, enter the 4-digit navigation anti-theft code (if not already done), and press the XM button.NOTE: There are two code labels and a plastic code card in a small plastic bag in the glove box.
- Attach one of the labels to the code card, put it in the plastic bag, and return it to the glove box.
- Attach the other label to the PDI repair order or put it in the plastic bag, and return it to the glove box for the customer.
NOTE: Never attach a label to the side of the glove box or other location where both the serial number and code are easily visible. This defeats the purpose of the anti-theft protection. If the code card is lost or unavailable, you can get the code from the iN using the navigation system serial number. The system serial number can easily be obtained without removing the navigation unit or the audio unit. To get the serial number and the code, do this:
With navigation
- Press and hold the MENU, MAP/GUIDE , and CANCEL buttons at the same time.
- At the diagnosis menu, select Unit Check , then Navi ECU . The system runs a brief diagnostic, then the navigation unit serial number is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
- Use the navigation Anti-theft code inquiry option in the iN to look up the 4-digit navigation anti-theft code.
- If the code does not work, call the American Honda Warranty department.
Without navigation
NOTE: This procedure can be done only when the power has been disconnected from the audio unit and the audio unit displays CODE .- Turn the audio unit off.
- Push and hold preset buttons No. 1 and No. 6 and the PWR knob, then release them.
- The audio unit displays the 8-digit serial number (example: 12345678). Use the 8-digit serial number when using the iN to get the 5-digit anti-theft code.
- Make sure the radio is in CHANNEL MODE , not CATEGORY MODE . Press and hold the DISP-MODE button until the mode changes (without navigation), or touch the MODE icon (with navigation) to switch between modes.
- Tune to channel 001 (the XM preview channel) to make sure you are receiving the XM signal. If you do not get a clear signal, park the vehicle outside where there is a clear view of the southern sky.
- While watching the audio unit display, tune to several channels within the XM line up. To see the full list of channels, go to www.siriusxm.com
.
- If you can tune to all the XM channels, the dealer demo service is activated. Tune to channel 001 and leave the radio on for 7 minutes to refresh the dealer demo service. No further action is needed.
- If you can tune to only a few channels like 000, 001 , and 247 , the dealer demo service is not yet activated, and an activation refresh needs to be done. Go to step 6.
- Turn the TUNE knob to 000
, then write down the 8-character XM radio ID you see in the audio unit display. You need this ID, your dealer number, and the VIN to do an activation refresh of the dealer demo service. Go to step 7.NOTE:
- If you cannot tune to channel 000 , you are in CATEGORY MODE . See step 3 above to switch from CATEGORY MODE to CHANNEL MODE .
- Check the ID code carefully. The letters I, O, S, and F are not used.
- Go to an iN workstation.NOTE: If you don't have access to the iN, call XM Radio at (800) 852-9696 , and follow the instructions on the automated menu. When the agent answers, ask for a rapid dealer activation refresh, then go to step 11.
- From the iN main menu, click on SERVICE,
click on Service Bay
, and then click on XM Radio.
This brings up the DEALER ACTIVATION REFRESH
screen.NOTE: If you cannot bring up this display, call the iN Support Center at (800) 245-4343 .
- Enter the 8-character XM radio ID you wrote down in step 6, then click on Submit. You will see the ACTIVATION REFRESH
screen once the ID is recognized.NOTE: If you enter the ID incorrectly, or if it is not recognized, you will see an error display. If this happens, follow the instructions on the display.
- Turn the TUNE knob to 001 to make sure you are receiving the XM signal. If you do not get a clear signal, park the vehicle outside where there is a clear view of the southern sky, then go to step 11.
- Leave the radio on for at least 10 minutes, then go to step 12.
- While watching the audio unit display, tune to several stations within the full XM lineup.
- If you can tune to all the XM channels, the dealer demo service is activated. No further action is needed.
- If you can tune to only a few channels like 000, 001 , and 247 , repeat steps 7 through 12.
- If, after 2 hours, you can only tune to channels 000, 001, and 247 , call XM Satellite Radio at 800-852-9696. When you hear the automated menu, enter priority code 8466 to route your call to an XM agent. When the agent answers, ask them to review the account status and make any necessary corrections. If the account status is correct for the vehicle, replace the XM receiver.
NOTE:- The dealer demo service lasts for 7 months or until the vehicle's RDR (retail delivery registration) is submitted.
- After the vehicle is registered, the dealer demo service converts to a customer account. For models with navigation, XM Radio is free to the customer for the first 3 months. After 3 months, the customer must subscribe to XM Radio to continue receiving coverage by calling (800) 852-9696 , or going online to www.siriusxm.com. They will need their XM radio ID (displayed when you tune to channel 0) and a credit card. Normal AM and FM radio reception is not affected by ending the service.
- The XM radio receives digital programming broadcasts from two fixed-orbit satellites above the equator along with a network of ground antennas (repeaters). You will get the strongest signal if you move the vehicle where there is a clear view of the southern sky.
- The XM radio may lose reception when you are driving through a tunnel, under an overpass, inside a parking garage, or near the northern face of a canyon or a mountain.
- To cut down on reception loss, XM radio uses a buffer. If the reception loss lasts longer than the buffering period, the signal goes silent.
- Because the XM radio signal is digital, any reception loss makes the signal go silent; the signal usually does not fade like it does with an AM/FM radio.
- If you ever need to replace the XM radio receiver, call XM Satellite Radio at (800) 852-9696. Be prepared to give them your dealer number, the VIN, and the XM radio ID from the printed label on the side of the old and the new receiver units.
Remove the Interior Protective Coverings
There are several protective covers on interior trim pieces and some areas of the carpet. Carefully remove all of them.
Install the Floor Mats
The floor mats are stored in the In-Bed Trunk. Install the floor mats in the appropriate positions. Make sure each mat is properly hooked to its anchor(s).
Install the Shift Lock Release Cover
The shift lock release cover is in the owners manual bag in the glove box. Install the cover in the slot on the steering column upper cover.
Install the Front License Plate Holder
The front license plate holder and its mounting hardware are stored in the rear seat cargo area or inside the In-Bed Trunk. If state regulations require the use of a front license plate, do this:
- Remove the two license plate nut covers from the front bumper. Place the covers in the glove box.
- Install the holder using the two round-head screws. Do not install a screw through the center hole of the holder. That way, your customer can remove the holder at a later date and reinstall the license plate nut covers.NOTE: The self-tapping screws in the kit are for attaching the front license plate to the holder.
Install the Rear License Plate Nut Clips
The two rear license plate nut clips and screws are stored in the In-Bed Trunk with the front license plate mounting hardware. Install the nut clips as shown.
Install the Inner Side Sill Grommets
During shipping, six grommets for the inner side sills are stored in the glove box. Install these grommets in the locations shown. These grommets reduce interior noise.
Make Sure the TPMS Sensors Are Operational, and Set the Tire Pressures
To make sure the TPMS sensors are operational and the tire pressures are set, do this:
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Use a tire pressure gauge with a bleeder valve to quickly lower the pressure in one tire to 18 psi or less.NOTE:
- The tire pressure must be lowered by at least 3 psi within 15 seconds, or the TPMS sensor in the wheel will not be activated.
- To ensure accuracy, periodically check your tire pressure gauge with the calibration tool (P/N 07AAJ-000A100).
- Adjust the tire pressure to the cold inflation pressure listed on the driver's doorjamb label. If you are in a cold climate region, make sure the tire is at the same temperature as the outside air before adjusting the pressure; otherwise, the TPMS low tire pressure indicator may show low tire pressure in cold weather.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other three tires.NOTE: The spare tire does not have a TPMS sensor. Make sure that the spare tire is inflated to the pressure listed on the doorjamb label.
Door Lock/Unlock Settings
There are two changeable door lock settings: auto locking and auto unlocking.
Before the vehicle is delivered, find out which settings the customer wants, and change the vehicle to those settings. To change the door lock/unlock settings, refer to the 2013 Ridgeline Technology Reference Guide.
Auto locking can be set to one of three positions:
- Lock all doors when you shift out of Park.
- Lock all doors when the vehicle speed reaches 9 mph (the factory setting).
- Be deactivated.
Auto unlocking can be set to one of five positions:
- Unlock the driver's door (the factory setting) when you shift to Park.
- Unlock all doors when you shift to Park.
- Unlock the driver's door when you turn the ignition switch to ACC (I).
- Unlock all doors when you turn the ignition switch to ACC (I).
- Be deactivated.
