Horn Switch Test

NOTE:
  • SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or servicing.
  • Check for a blown No. 11 (20 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box.
  1. Turn the steering wheel 180 degrees from the center position and remove the access panel (A).

  2. Disconnect the horn switch 2P connector (B).
  3. Connect horn switch 2P connector terminals No. land No. 2 with a jumper wire.

    The horns should sound.

    • If the horns don't sound, go to step 4.
    • If the horns sound, check or adjust the installation of the driver's airbag assembly and the horn switch plate.
  4. Remove the jumper wire from the horn switch 2P connector.
  5. Remove the steering column covers (see COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  6. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 20P connector (A) from the cable reel (B).

  7. Connect dashboard wire harness 20P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire. The horns should sound.
    • If the horns sound, go to  10.
    • If the horns don't sound, go to 8.
  8. Measure the voltage between dashboard wire harness 20P connector terminal No. land body ground
    • If there is battery voltage, go to 9.
    • If there is no battery voltage, repair an open or high resistance in the wire, or a faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
  9. Check for continuity between dashboard wire harness 20P connector No. 2 terminal and body ground.
    • If there is continuity, faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
    • If there is no continuity, repair an open or high resistance in the wire, or poor ground (G401).
  10. Reconnect the dashboard wire harness 20P connector (A) to the cable reel (B).
  11. Remove the driver's airbag assembly (see DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
  12. Disconnect the cable reel subharness 20P connector (A).

  13. Check for continuity between cable reel subharness 20P connector terminals No. 11 and No. 12 and horn switch 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.
    • If there is no continuity. Repair an open or high resistance in the wires or faulty cruise control switch.
    • If there is continuity. Replace the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).
