Horn Switch Test
NOTE:
- SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or servicing.
- Check for a blown No. 11 (20 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Turn the steering wheel 180 degrees from the center position and remove the access panel (A).
- Disconnect the horn switch 2P connector (B).
- Connect horn switch 2P connector terminals No. land No. 2 with a jumper wire.
The horns should sound.
- If the horns don't sound, go to step 4.
- If the horns sound, check or adjust the installation of the driver's airbag assembly and the horn switch plate.
- Remove the jumper wire from the horn switch 2P connector.
- Remove the steering column covers (see COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 20P connector (A) from the cable reel (B).
- Connect dashboard wire harness 20P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire. The horns should sound.
- If the horns sound, go to 10.
- If the horns don't sound, go to 8.
- Measure the voltage between dashboard wire harness 20P connector terminal No. land body ground
- If there is battery voltage, go to 9.
- If there is no battery voltage, repair an open or high resistance in the wire, or a faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
- Check for continuity between dashboard wire harness 20P connector No. 2 terminal and body ground.
- If there is continuity, faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
- If there is no continuity, repair an open or high resistance in the wire, or poor ground (G401).
- Reconnect the dashboard wire harness 20P connector (A) to the cable reel (B).
- Remove the driver's airbag assembly (see DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
- Disconnect the cable reel subharness 20P connector (A).
- Check for continuity between cable reel subharness 20P connector terminals No. 11 and No. 12 and horn switch 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.
- If there is no continuity. Repair an open or high resistance in the wires or faulty cruise control switch.
- If there is continuity. Replace the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).
