Audio Unit Removal/Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) in the SRS section before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  • Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts.
  • Lay a workshop towel under the parts when working on them to protect the face panel from scratches or other damage.
  • Eject all the discs before removing the audio unit and the audio disc changer to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.
  • If you are replacing the audio unit, write down the audio presets (if possible), and enter them into the new audio unit.
  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped).
  2. Remove the instrument panel (see INSTRUMENT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  3. Remove the bolts, then pull out the audio unit (A) and navigation display (B) (with navigation) or center pocket (C) (without navigation).

    With navigation

    Without navigation (6 CD type)

  4. Disconnect the connectors (D), then remove the audio unit.
  5. Remove the bolts (A), the audio unit (B), and the hazard warning switch (C) (with navigation).

    With navigation

    Without navigation (6 CD type and 1 CD type)

  6. Install the audio unit in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • Make sure all the connectors and the antenna lead are secure.
    • Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped).
    • Set the clock (on vehicles without navigation).
  7. Give the new anti-theft code to the customer if the audio unit is replaced.
