Engine Removal & Installation: Removal
NOTE:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.
- 1. Left Front Fender Trim - Remove
- 2. Hood - Wide Open
1. Open the hood
2. Remove and relocate the hood support rod (A) to the wide-open positions (B) and secure the hood.
NOTE:
- Install the hood support rod in the wide-open bracket correctly.
- Prevent the support rod from coming off the wide-open bracket.
- 3. Fuel Pressure - Relieve
- 4. 12 Volt Battery - Remove
- 5. Air Cleaner - Remove
- 6. Intake Air Duct - Remove
- 7. Intake Air Pipe - Remove
- 8. PCM With Bracket - Remove
1. Remove the cover and disconnect the connectors .
2. Remove the harness clamps (A).
3. Remove the PCM with bracket (B).
- 9. 12 Volt Battery Base - Remove
1. Remove the 12 volt battery base (A) and the harness clamps (B).
- 10. Positive Cable (Under-Hood Fuse/Relay Box) - Disconnect
- 11. Connector (Engine Wire Harness) - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the connectors (A), and remove the harness clamps (B).
- 12. Harness Holder - Remove
- 13.Fuel Feed Hose (Fuel Rail Side) - Disconnect
- 14. EVAP Canister Purge Hose and Brake Booster Vacuum Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge hose (A) and the brake booster vacuum hose (B).
- 15.Steering Joint - Disconnect
NOTE: Hold the steering wheel in the steering wheel holder tool.
- 16. Radiator Cap - Remove
- 17. Vehicle - Lift
- 18.Front Wheel - Remove
- 19.Splash Shield - Remove
- 20.Engine Coolant - Drain
- 21.Engine Oil - Drain
- 22.Transmission Fluid - Drain
- 23.Front Floor Undercover - Remove - Refer to: Middle Floor Undercover Removal and InstallationRear Floor Undercover Removal and InstallationFront Floor Undercover Removal and Installation
- 24.Rear Driveshaft Removal & Installation(AWD/4WD)
- 25.Exhaust Pipe A, Exhaust Pipe Bracket, and Under-Floor TWC - Remove
NOTE:
- Disconnect the secondary HO2S connector at the same time.
- Do not remove the secondary HO2S.
- 26.Front Stabilizer Link - Disconnect
- 27.Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the remover.
- 28.Front Driveshaft - Remove
- 29.Connector (EPS) - Disconnect
- 30. Lower Torque Rod Bolt - Remove
- 31. Front Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove
- 32. Front Subframe - Support
1. Attach the subframe adapter to the front subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the belt with its stop (B), and tighten the wing nut (C)
2. Raise the transmission jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.
- 33. Front Subframe - Remove
1. Remove the front subframe mid bolt (A) on both sides.
2. Remove the front subframe mounting bolts 3. Lower the front subframe carefully.
NOTE: Check that the front subframe is free of the electrical wiring.
- 34. Lower Radiator Hose - Disconnect
- 35. Vehicle - Lift
1. Lower the vehicle.
- 36. Heater Hose and Upper Radiator Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the heater hoses (A) and the upper radiator hose (B).
- 37.Shift Cable (Transmission Side) - Disconnect
- 38.Alternator - Remove
- 39. A/C Compressor - Move
NOTE:
- Do not disconnect the A/C hoses.
- Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.
- Hang the A/C compressor with a wire tie.
- 40. Engine - Lift and support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the oil pan.
- 41. Upper Torque Rod - Remove
- 42. Side Engine Mount - Remove
1. Disconnect the ground cable (A)
2. Remove the side engine mount (B).
- 43. Chain Hoist - Install
1. Install the universal lifting eyelet to the cam chain case.
2. Attach a chain hoist (A) to universal lifting eyelet (B) and the transmission hanger (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it is securely supported by the chain hoist. - 44. Transmission Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt and Nut - Remove
1. Disconnect the ground cable (A)
2. Remove the transmission mount bracket mounting bolt and nut (B).
- 45. Engine - Remove
1. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring
- 46. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (5.91 in). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it
- 47. Remove the chain hoist from the engine/transmission
- 48. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.
