DTC P1721: Park Pawl Unit IG1 SW No Signal

The park pawl actuator driver unit controls the park pawl actuator for shifting to/releasing from the P position. The park pawl actuator driver unit monitors the information of the IG1 signal to shift to a control mode in which the park pawl actuator is operational, using the information of the IG1 signal. If the IG1 signal information recognized by the park pawl actuator driver unit continues to be OFF for a specified time or more while the IG1 signal information that is recognized by the powertrain control module (PCM) and transmitted via EPP-CAN is ON, the PCM receives malfunction from the park pawl actuator driver unit, and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold

The IG1 signal information recognized by the park pawl actuator driver unit continues to be OFF for at least 1.2 seconds while the IG1 signal information recognized by the PCM is ON.

Possible Cause

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes

Park pawl actuator driver unit IG1 P-DRV line open (includes a loose or disconnected connector)

Confirmation Procedure

Operating Condition

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for at least 10 seconds.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the shift position indicator blinks and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
