DTC P2074

DTC P2074:  Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Signal Lower Than Expected

General Description

GHH434276Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor senses manifold absolute pressure (vacuum) and converts it into electrical signals. The MAP sensor outputs low signal voltage at high vacuum (throttle valve closed) and high signal voltage at low vacuum (throttle valve wide open). The powertrain control module (PCM) compares a predetermined MAP value at a given throttle position and manifold absolute pressure to the output voltage value of the MAP sensor. If the MAP sensor outputs lower voltage than expected, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type

Execution Once per driving cycle
Sequence None
Duration 2.0 seconds or more
DTC Type Two drive cycles, MIL on

Enable Conditions

Condition Minimum Maximum
Engine coolant temperature [ECT SENSOR 1] 156 deg. F (69 deg. C) -
Engine speed [ENGINE SPEED] 1, 200 rpm -
Vehicle speed [VEHICLE SPEED] 15 mph (24 km/h) -
Throttle position 1, 000 rpm 12.1 deg. -
4, 000 rpm 30.1 deg. -
Other Other than during fuel cut-off operation

[ ]: HDS Parameter

Malfunction Threshold

The MAP sensor output [MAP SENSOR] is 36 kPa (10.9 inHg, 277 mmHg) or less for at least 2.0 seconds when atmospheric pressure [BARO SENSOR] is 61 kPa (18.1 inHg, 460 mmHg).

Possible Cause

NOTE:  The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Confirmation Procedure

Operating Condition

With the HDS

None.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
