Removal & Installation: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
When performing service on or near the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
in AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in AIRBAG in RESTRAINTS. Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
CAUTION:
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES
article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
