Installation Procedure

  1. Place the relay rod to the vehicle.
  2. Fig 1: Seating Idler Arm Tapers

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  3. Use installer J 29193  or installer J 29194  to seat the idler arm and pitman arm to the relay rod. See Special Tools .

    Tighten:  Tighten the installer to 54 N.m (40 lb ft).

  5. Install the new pitman arm nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).

  6. Install the new idler arm nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).

  7. Connect the steering linkage outer tie rods to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  8. Install the steering linkage shock absorber. Refer to Steering Linkage Shock Absorber Replacement .
  9. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
