Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 GMC Canyon and 2009 Chevrolet Colorado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    NOTE: A new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil will come precentered with a centering tab attached. Do NOT remove the centering tab until installation is complete. Failure to follow procedure will cause a misalignment and re-centering of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil will be required.
    If reusing the existing inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil, you must center the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .

  1. Slide the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil onto the steering column.
  2. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  3. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in).

  5. Route the wiring harness assembly down the steering column.
  6. Connect any electrical connectors as needed.
  7. Install the wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly.
  8. Remove the centering tab from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil, if equipped.
  9. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement .
  10. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
