ECM Replacement

WARNING: Replacement or reprogramming of the ECM, or replacement of the clutch pedal position sensor (CPPS) or clutch pedal requires that a CPPS learn procedure be performed. Failure to perform the CPPS learn procedure may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle or its components if the vehicle is in gear and the starter motor is accidentally engaged.

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:

  1. ECM Reprogramming-requiring special tool EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool and Tech 2. See Service Programming System (SPS) 
  2. Clutch pedal position sensor learn-Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn .
  3. Crankshaft Position (CKP) Variation Learn-Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn for 2.9L engine or Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn for 3.7L engine.
  4. Engine Oil Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
  5. Transmission Fluid Life Remaining-When available, use the scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.
  6. Theft Deterrent-Refer to Immobilizer System Component Programming (North America, except Canada) or Immobilizer System Component Programming (Canada, Europe, Middle East, and Asia) .
