Low-Reverse Brake: Reassembly

  1. Install "D" shaped rings on piston with round side facing out. Lubricate ring with Dexron II. Install piston by hand, being careful not to damage rings.
  2. Install waved spring and return spring. Compress springs and install snap ring. Install pressure plate, lined plate(s), steel plate(s), alternating lined plate(s) and steel plate(s). Install reaction plate. See Fig 1 .
  3. Install large snap ring and measure clearance between reaction plate and snap ring. Clearance should be .031-.040" (.8-1.0 mm) on KM170 transaxle, .047-.055" (1.2-1.4 mm) on all others. If clearance is incorrect, replace snap ring. Snap rings are available from .063" (1.6 mm) to .126" (3.2 mm) in .008" (.2 mm) increments.
