Hold-In Test

Disconnect field coil wire from terminal "M" of solenoid. Apply battery voltage to terminal "S" of solenoid, and ground starter case. See Figure. Solenoid plunger should pull in. If pinion drive remains out when plunger is pulled in, hold-in circuit is good. If pinion drive moves in or moves back and forth repeatedly, hold-in circuit is open. Replace solenoid.
