DESCRIPTION

Some 2001 XG300 vehicles may experience the following symptoms:

This bulletin describes the procedure for updating the ECM software with new logic to improve the above condition by using the Hi-Scan Pro.

CAUTIONS BEFORE REPROGRAMMING

  1. Conduct reprogramming with the ignition key in the "ON" position.
  2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming.
    WARNING: If reprogramming is interrupted, the manual update procedure must be used.
  3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming.
  4. Do not turn the ignition key off during reprogramming.

ECM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

NOTE: Verify that the vehicle is affected by identifying the vehicle production date.

AUTOMATIC UPDATE PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the Data Link Connector (DLC) cable from the Hi-Scan Pro (Fig 1 ) and attach the reprogramming adapter.

  2. Connect the red 10-pin adapter to the reprogramming adapter.
  3. Remove the current software card from the Hi-Scan Pro and insert the reprogramming software pack card into the Hi-Scan Pro.
  4. Insert the Hi-Scan Pro cigarette power adapter. (Fig 2 )

  5. Plug the power connector from the reprogramming adapter into the cigarette adapter. (Fig 2 )
  6. Plug the power connector from the cigarette adapter into the Hi-Scan Pro. (Fig 2 )
  7. Connect the red 10 pin connector from the reprogramming adapter into the white connector next to the DLC located under the driver's side instrument panel.
  8. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  9. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON and press ENTER.
  10. Select option "28. XG 300 COLD STUMBLE " and press ENTER. (Fig 3 )

  11. Select option "01. XG 300 COLD STUMBLE [AUTO MODE]" and press ENTER. This option automatically detects the ECM type and downloads the correct program. (Fig 4 )

  12. Enter "1229" as the password for the automatic update mode and press ENTER. (Fig 5 )

  13. The Hi-Scan Pro will establish communication and check the ECM ID. The Hi-Scan Pro will reprogram the ECM automatically.

    NOTE: The Hi-Scan Pro detects the current ECM ID and displays it for about 1 second (Fig 7 ).

  14. The boot program will download first, then the main program and the interrupt vector program.

    NOTE: If the Hi-Scan Pro does not automatically download the program, use the Manual Update Procedure following this section.
    WARNING: Do not interrupt the reprogramming at any time. The ECM will be rendered inoperative if the program does not download completely.
  15. The Hi-Scan Pro re-initializes the system. (Fig 10 )

  16. When the "COMPLETED" message is displayed, the ECM reprogramming process is complete. (Fig 11 )

    • The new ECM ID is displayed when the new ECM software download process is complete.
    • Check the new ECM ID displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct ECM software has been downloaded.
    • Refer to ECM SPECIFICATION  .
  17. When the reprogramming is completed successfully, turn the ignition to the OFF position for 20 seconds and then start the engine to check for proper operation.

MANUAL UPDATE PROCEDURE

NOTE: In the event that option "01. XG 300 COLD STUMBLE [AUTO MODE]" fails to download the new ECM program, option "02. XG 300 COLD STUMBLE [ERROR MODE]" must be used.
  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  2. Turn the Hi-Scan Pro ON and press ENTER.
  3. Select option "28. XG 300 COLD STUMBLE" and press ENTER. (Fig 3 )
  4. Select option "02. XG 300 COLD STUMBLE [ERROR MODE] " and press ENTER. (Fig 12 )

  5. Select option "01. XG 300 COLD STUMBLE: 39110-39077 " (Fig 13 ) and press ENTER.

  6. Enter "9077" as the password (Fig 14 ) for the manual update procedure and press ENTER .

    NOTE: Input the correct password to prevent the Hi-Scan Pro from downloading the wrong ECM program.
  7. The Hi-Scan Pro will reprogram the ECM automatically (Fig 15 ). Wait until the reprogramming is complete.

    WARNING:
    • Do not interrupt the reprogramming at any time. The ECM will be rendered inoperative if the program does not download completely.
    • If the program does not download during the manual update mode, turn the ignition off for 2-3 minutes and try again.
  8. The Hi-Scan Pro re-initializes the system. (Fig 10 )
  9. When the "COMPLETED" message is displayed, the ECM reprogramming process is complete. (Fig 11 )
    NOTE:
    • The new ECM ID is displayed when the new ECM software download process is complete.
    • Check the new ECM ID displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro screen to verify that the correct ECM software has been downloaded.
    • Refer to ECM SPECIFICATION TABLE  .
  10. When the reprogramming is completed successfully, turn the ignition to the OFF position for 20 seconds and then start the engine to check for proper operation.

EXPLANATION OF ERROR MESSAGE

  1. "INVALID PASSWORD": Please enter the exact password again.
  2. "REPROGRAMMING ERROR, PLEASE WAIT FOR RETRY": An error occurred during reprogramming, the Hi-Scan Pro will retry reprogramming automatically.
  3. "ALREADY REPROGRAMMED" or "INCORRECT TARGET ID": The reprogramming has previously been done on this vehicle or the ECM/TCM is not the type subject to the reprogramming procedure.
  4. "REPROGRAM ERROR, PLEASE CHECK THE SYSTEM": In this case, you must reprogram manually after selecting the menu option "02. XG 300 AT 4-5 SHUDDER [ERROR MODE]".
