Output Current Test: Test

  1. Check to see that voltmeter reads the same value as battery voltage. If voltmeter reads same value as battery voltage. If voltmeter reads 0V, there is an open circuit in wire between generator "B" terminal batter (-) terminal. Check for a blown fusible link or poor ground.
  2. Start the engine and turn on headlights.
  3. Set the headlights to high beam and heater blower switch to HIGH. Quickly increase engine speed to 2500 RPM and read maximum output current value indicated by ammeter.
    NOTE: After engine starts up, charging current will quickly drop. Therefore, above operation must be done quickly to read maximum current value correctly.
