Component Inspection

■ Check BCM

  1. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF" & wiper "AUTO"
  3. Measure waveform between terminal "C3" of BCM and chassis ground.

Specification:  Refer the specifications in fig.2)

  4. Is the measured waveform within specifications?

    YES

    • Go to  1Check rain sensor procedure.

    NO

    • Substitute with a known-good BCM and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace BCM and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

■ Check rain sensor

  1. Connect scantool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF" & wiper "AUTO".
  3. Measure waveform between terminal "4" of rain sensor and chassis ground while sprinkling water on front window glass.

    Specification:  Duty cycle > 66.7% ± 3%

    DUTY CYCLE REFERENCE

    Mode Duty Cycle
    OFF 9.5% ± 3%
    Fault 1 Detected 23.8% ± 3%
    Fault 2 Detected 38.0% ± 3%
    Fault 3 Detected 52.4% ± 3%
    Rain Detected 66.7% ± 3%
    Low Speed Request 81.0% ± 3%
    High Speed Request 95.2% ± 3%

  4. Is the measured waveform within specifications?

    ■ Duty cycle value will be fixed at 95.2%±3%, if fault 3 is detected.

    YES

    • Check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

    NO

    • Substitute with a known-good rain sensor and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace rain sensor and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
