Repair Procedures: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Set the front tires straight-ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and wait for at least three minutes before beginning the work.
  4. Assemble the neutral state clock spring.
    NOTE:
    • New clock spring is supplied with neutral pin (A) inserted.
    • Remove the neutral pin (A) after assembling the clock spring on to the steering wheel.

  5. If the neutral pin is removed or when re-assembling the clock spring after removal, set the clock spring back to neutral by following below steps.
    1. Turn the clock spring clockwise until it stops.
      NOTE: Do not turn the clock spring counter-clockwise all the way to the end when it is not assembled.

    2. After it comes to a stop, turn ( ) counter-clockwise until it stops (until the auto lock clicks).
      NOTE: When the auto lock clicks, check that 9 O" clock neutral mark ( ) is aligned.

  6. Install the steering wheel column shroud and the steering wheel.

    (Refer to MDPS COLUMN AND HOUSING Steering System )

  7. Connect the Driver Airbag (DAB) module connector and horn connector, then install the Driver Airbag (DAB) module on the steering wheel.
  8. Connect the battery negative cable.
  9. After installing the airbag, confirm proper system operation
    • Turn the ignition switch ON; the SRS indicator light should be turned on for about six seconds and then go off.
    • Make sure horn button works.
    WARNING: If the actuator is dropped after removing the safety pin, the actuator may activate and cause injury. Do NOT drop the actuator after removing the safety pin.
