Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Move the shift lever to "Nl".
  2. Turn ignition OFF switch and the disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly and air duct.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "AIR CLEANER REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  4. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  5. Remove the ECM.

    (Refer to Engine Control/Fuel System - "ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  6. Loosen the mounting nut (A) and then separate the shift cable (B) from the bracket.

  7. Remove the shift knob & boots (A).

  8. Remove the floor console assembly.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "FLOOR CONSOLE REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  9. Remove the crash pad.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "CRASH PAD REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  10. Remove the heater and blower.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning - "HEATER UNIT REPAIR PROCEDURES ")

  11. Remove the snap pin (A) and then separate the shift cable (B).

  12. Remove the retainer (A) by loosening the nuts (B).

  13. Remove the shift cable from the vehicle.
