Fail-Safe/Limp-In Mode

If malfunction occurs which directly affects engine performance, ECM may enter fail-safe mode. In fail-safe mode, Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) illuminates. ECM operates based on internal default tables and available sensor inputs. When certain components fail, engine speed is limited to less than 2000 or 3000 RPM, depending on model.
