Transmitter Synchronization

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Synchronization may be necessary due to security method used by remote keyless entry system. Transmitter does not send same signal twice to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). RCDLR will not respond to a signal that has been sent previously. This prevents anyone from recording and playing back signal from transmitter. Synchronization may be necessary if battery in transmitter is very weak, was replaced or battery in vehicle has been in a low or no charge condition for an extended period of time. To synchronize transmitters, stand within 5 ft. (1.5 m) of vehicle. Simultaneously press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on transmitter for 7 seconds. Horn should chirp to confirm synchronization.
