ICC, General
The ICC regulates the speed and distance relative to the vehicle in front in a vehicle speed range of 0 to 200 km/h and 200 to 0 km/h automatically according to the driver's request.
Furthermore, a distance warning function is included which advises the driver about a vehicle in front which is too close and optically and acoustically warns about possible collisions with vehicles or stationary obstacles in the driver's lane.
If the driver reacts to the acoustic warning and brakes, he will be assisted in this by the adaptive Brake Assist. The required brake servo assistance for this will be calculated according to the situation. In this way a possible collision can be prevented or at least its consequences can be mitigated.
The ICC was extended by the function FEB. It includes the functions distance warning, adaptive Brake Assist system and autonomous partial braking (vehicle speed up to 200 km/h). If the driver does not react in an accident-critical situation to the acoustic warning, the ICC sensor initiates an autonomous partial braking.
The ICC sensor actively engages in the engine management, in the transmission control and in control of the brake system to implement the ICC.
The following sub functions of the ICC are described in the separate sub function "Cruise control function":
- Automatic speed control
- Permanent speed limiter
