System Check

- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If SECURITY light comes on, go to next step. If SECURITY light does not come on, go to step 14).
- If SECURITY light comes on and remains on for more than 5 seconds, go to step 5). If SECURITY light does not come on and remain on for more than 5 seconds, go to next step.
- If SECURITY light comes on for 3 seconds, turns off and then flashes, go to step 5). If SECURITY light does not come on for 3 seconds, turn off and then flash, go to next step.
- If SECURITY light comes on for 3 seconds, turns off for 2 seconds and then come on steady, go to SYSTEM TEST. If SECURITY light does not come on for 3 seconds, turn off for 2 seconds and then come on steady, go to step 9).
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool communicates with vehicle, go to step 7). If scan tool does not communicate with vehicle, go to next step.
- Repair Class 2 serial data line communications. See appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS wiring diagram in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check for PassLock(R) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If scan tool indicates no communication with vehicle, go to step 6). If any PassLock(R) DTCs are present, go to appropriate DTC under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM If no PassLock(R) DTCs are present, go to SYSTEM TEST.
- Monitor PassLock(R) CODE data from the PassLock(R) DATA LIST on scan tool display. If PassLock(R) CODE value is OPEN, go to DTC B2958 under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM . If PassLock(R) CODE value is other than OPEN, go to next step.
- Try and start vehicle. If engine cranks fast enough to start, go to next step. If engine fails to crank fast enough to start, go to step 12).
- If engine starts up and runs, system is operating properly. If engine fails to start up and run, go to next step.
- Perform OBD system check. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. After repair is complete, return to step 1).
- Check starting system. See appropriate STARTERS article in ELECTRICAL section. After repair is complete, return to step 1).
- Perform instrument panel system check. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. After repair is complete, return to step 1).
