Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read IAT value. If temperature reading is less than 5 volts, -36°F (-38°C), go to step  4. If temperature reading is more than specified, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, read and record FAILURE RECORDS data. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAILURE RECORDS data. Using scan tool, read specified DTC. If scan tool displays DTC P0113 FAILED THIS IGN, test IAT sensor. Using a DVOM, measure resistance across sensor terminals. See IAT SENSOR RESISTANCE  table under DTC P0112. Replace IAT sensor if resistance is not as specified. If scan tool does not display DTC P0113 FAILED THIS IGN, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAT sensor harness connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminals of IAT sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read IAT value. If reading is zero volts and 284°F (140°C), go to step  6. If reading is not as specified, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Connect jumper between IAT sensor harness connector Yellow/Green wire and ground. Turn ignition on and observe IAT sensor value. If reading is zero volts and 284°F (140°C), go to step  7. If reading is not as specified, go to step  8.
  6. Check for poor connections at IAT sensor and harness connector. Repair as necessary. If terminals and connector are okay, go to step  10.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Check IAT sensor ground (Blue/Yellow wire) for an open circuit between IAT sensor harness connector and PCM White 32-pin harness connector terminal D9. Repair as necessary. Retest system. If IAT ground circuit is okay, go to step  9.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Check IAT sensor input (Yellow/Green wire) for an open circuit between IAT sensor harness connector and PCM Red 32-pin harness connector terminal B8. Repair as necessary. Retest system. If IAT sensor input circuit is okay, go to next step.
  9. Check PCM and IAT sensor harness connectors for poor connections or damaged terminals. Repair as necessary. Retest system. If terminals are okay, go to step  11.
  10. Replace IAT sensor. Retest system.
  11. Replace and reprogram PCM using required equipment. See PROGRAMMING . Retest system.
