Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

Linear Gearbox Switch:






1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove gear selector knob and console cover.
3. Remove switch securing screws.
4. Pull switch out for access and unplug electrical connectors. Remove switch assembly.
5. Place gear selector in "N."
6. Plug in electrical connector and place new switch in position. Install but do not tighten securing screws.
7. Place setting gauge (Service Tool JD 127) between switch and side plate. Ensure that setting gauge slot is located onto linear switch pin.
8. Tighten screws and remove setting gauge.
9. Check that vehicle will only start in "P" or "N." Readjust if necessary.
10. Install console cover and gear selector knob.
