Test 4-Alternator Output

Fig. 2 Output Test:

1. Disconnect +D lead from alternator. Fig. 2.
2. Connect a ammeter between disconnected lead and alternator +D terminal.
3. Switch on all loads (except wipers) for one minute to discharge battery.
4. Run engine at normal charging speed. Ammeter will indicate maximum alternator output. Refer to alternator specifications.
5. If low output is obtained, proceed with tests. If no output is obtained, remove and bench check alternator.
