Throttle Position Switch (TPS) (XJS)

The TPS is mounted so that its contacts close just before throttle fully opens (WOT). When the contacts are closed, TPS sends signal to ECU indicating that full load fueling is necessary.

TPS is necessary when the vehicle is under full load and traveling at high speeds. Under these conditions, intake manifold vacuum is NOT sufficient to close the vacuum-operated full load switch.
