Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor

ECT sensor is located at rear of thermostat housing. The ECT sensor is a Negative Thermal Coefficient (NTC) thermistor. Electrical resistance within ECT sensor increases as coolant temperature decreases.

ECM monitors ECT sensor resistance value and triggers temperature enrichment circuits (when necessary) to extend injector "On" time during cold starting and warm-up.
