4-36 Error during Key Programming
ISSUE
IDS/SDD reports 4-36 error during key programming on legacy Jaguar models.
CAUSE
Contents
This error indicates there is a communication problem between the diagnostic tool and the GEM/Body module. Most often this occurs on vehicles with no existing keys where the vehicle security system is still set into an ARMED state. It can also occur when there are functional problems with the wiring or GEM itself.
SOLUTION
To overcome the "vehicle armed" condition, ensure the vehicle is disarmed by inserting a key into the driver's door lock cylinder, then lock and unlock the driver's door.
After this action is completed, repeat the key programming procedure as required. If problems still persist open a TA request with the Jaguar Technical Helpline, and attach diagnostic session files to expedite the process.
