The cylinder is installed on a bracket in the front left corner of the luggage compartment, behind the front cover. The cylinder contains 4 liters (0.88 Imperial gallon) of AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) as the extinguishing agent. The cylinder is pressurized with nitrogen at 8 to 12 bar (116 to 174 lbf/in 2 ). A gage on the fire extinguisher shows the internal pressure on a display containing red and green sectors. The fire extinguisher must be replaced if the gage reading falls into the red sector. A solenoid operated firing head on the fire extinguisher controls the discharge of foam into the distribution system.

WARNING: AFFF can cause irritation if it comes into contact with the eyes or skin.

The distribution system consists of a network of tubes which connect the firing head on the fire extinguisher to six spray nozzles in the engine compartment.
