Distributor R & I (4.2L & 5.9L): Removal

  1. Unfasten distributor cap retaining screws. Remove distributor cap and place out of the way with coil and spark plug wires still connected. Disconnect and plug distributor vacuum advance hose. Disconnect distributor primary wiring connector.
  2. Scribe a mark on distributor housing in-line with tip of rotor. Scribe a mark on distributor housing near clamp and continue scribe mark on engine block in line with distributor housing mark. Note position of rotor and distributor housing in relation to surrounding engine components.
  3. Remove distributor hold-down bolt and clamp. Lift distributor straight up and carefully remove from engine.
