Test 12E - Repairing Faulty Check Gauges Lamp

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. If vehicle has coolant temperature, oil pressure or charging system problem, repair appropriate system. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If vehicle does not have coolant temperature, oil pressure or charging system problem, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) connector. Turn ignition on. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage on CCD bus positive circuit (Violet/Brown wire) at MIC connector terminal No. 10. If voltage is less than one volt, repair open Violet/Brown wire. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If voltage is more than one volt, go to next step.
  3. Check voltage on CCD bus negative circuit (White/Black wire) at MIC connector terminal No. 9. If voltage is less than one volt, repair open circuit in CCD bus negative wire. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If voltage is more than one volt, go to next step.
  4. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of signal ground circuit (Black/Light Green wire) at MIC connector terminal No. 7. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Light Green wire. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage on fused ignition feed circuit (Dark Blue/White wire) at MIC connector terminal No. 11. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to TEST 48B  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  6. Check voltage on fused battery feed circuit (Pink wire) at MIC connector terminal No. 2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace MIC. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  7. Remove and inspect IOD fuse in Power Distribution Center (PDC). If fuse is blown, go to TEST 48D  . If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  8. Reinstall IOD fuse. Check voltage on battery feed circuit (Black/Red wire) at IOD fuse connector in PDC. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black/Red wire. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair or replace PDC as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1B  .
