Test 78A - Identifying Power Door Lock Problems With Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Diagnostics for power door locks on vehicles equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) are separated into 17 categories. Verify failure(s) or customer complaint, and ensure vehicle is experiencing failure(s) or complaint at this time. Go to next step.
  2. Lower both front door windows. Remove key from ignition switch. Close all doors. Lock and unlock doors from both front door lock switches. If doors lock and unlock properly, go to step 5). If all doors fail to lock or unlock and liftgate unlocks when door lock switch is pressed, go to next step. If doors fail to lock or unlock properly, see DIAGNOSING RKE POWER DOOR LOCK CIRCUIT  table below, and perform appropriate test.
    NOTE: RKE module may be accessed by carefully prying each end of instrument panel top cover and sliding cover forward to disengage front clips.
    DIAGNOSING RKE POWER DOOR LOCK CIRCUIT

    All Doors Fail To Lock & Unlock From One Switch . TEST 71A 
    All Doors Fail To Lock From Any Switch TEST 72A 
    All Doors Fail To Lock From One Switch TEST 73A 
    All Doors Fail To Unlock From Any Switch TEST 74A 
    All Doors Fail To Unlock From One Switch TEST 75A 
    One Door Except LF Fails To Lock & Unlock From Any Switch TEST 76A 
    LF Door Fails To Lock & Unlock From Any Switch TEST 79A 
    LF Door Fails To Lock From Any Switch TEST 80A 
    LF Door Fails To Unlock From Any Switch TEST 81A 
    All Doors Except LF Fail To Lock & Unlock TEST 82A 
    All Doors Except LF Fail To Lock TEST 83A 
    All Doors Except LF Fail To Unlock TEST 84A 
  3. Gain access to RKE module. RKE module is located under instrument panel top cover, behind information center. Disconnect RKE module Black connector. Go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of RKE module Black connector terminal "H" (Black wire). If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace RKE module.
  5. Using RKE transmitter, operate door locks and trunk. If door locks and trunk fail to operate, see owner's manual to check transmitter batteries or to program a known good transmitter. If after programming and using a known-good transmitter, RKE still does not operate, go to TEST 85A . If RKE operates, go to next step.
  6. Insert key in ignition switch. Open left front door. Lock doors from either switch. If doors lock, go to TEST 7A . If doors do not lock, and vehicle is equipped with speed sensitive locks, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with speed sensitive locks, system is operating properly.
  7. Drive vehicle with all doors closed and unlocked. Reach a speed of 15 MPH. If doors fail to lock, go to TEST 77A . If doors lock, system is operating properly.
